Category Codes Table

Menu Path: Fixed Assets > Reference Tables > Reference Tables > Category Codes

Use this table to set up groups of fixed assets within the major classifications:

  • Land
  • Building
  • Improvement
  • Machinery/Equipment, Construction
  • Infrastructure

When you add an asset, enter a code from this table to identify its category. You can use Category codes when querying to create reports, such as listing all assets in a particular category.

The default report file name is category.rpt.

If your organization uses the Fixed Assets Communicator module, you must create a record with the code 99999999. By default, this code is used in all asset records uploaded into Fixed Assets with Fixed Assets Communicator.

Accumulated Depreciation Account

Select the account where depreciation is posted for assets that use this category code. If you depreciate assets and your organization interfaces depreciation to the Fund Accounting System, then enter a fixed asset contra asset (credit balance) account code from your Account List.

You must also link the fixed asset contra asset account to a fund in the current fiscal year. When you interface depreciation to Fund Accounting:

  • A credit is created against this account
  • A debit is created against the depreciation account, which is an expense account.
