Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. Can MFA and SSO both be active for the same module or profile?
    No. Use only one authentication method per module or profile. Running both at the same time causes sign-in conflicts.

  2. Can one module use MFA while another uses SSO?
    Yes. You can mix methods across different modules or profiles, but not within the same module or profile.

  3. I'm a Cloud-Hosted customer. Can I configure MFA myself?
    Some steps, like enabling MFA at the profile level, may be available depending on your access. However, any steps that require Environment Maintenance, including SMTP setup and MFA key generation, must be handled by PowerSchool Support.

  4. What if a Business Entity doesn't have its own SMTP settings?
    It will automatically use the global SMTP settings from the SMTP Configuration page accessed from the Other Catalog Information section.

  5. Which email addresses does MFA use?
    For active employees, MFA uses the Email field on the Employment tab of the Employee Information page.
    For previous employees accessing the Employee Access Center (EAC), NFA uses the Personal Email field on the Employment tab of the Employee Information page.
    Make sure the correct field is populated and working for each user.

  6. Which PowerSchool ERP versions support MFA?
    The following PowerSchool ERP versions support MFA:

    • Version 23.10.31.0 or newer

    • Version 25.7.10.0 or newer
