Configure the Import Tool

Prerequisite

To use the Import Tool for Batch Position Control, Batch Position Control Employee Assignments, or Position Control, either of the following must be selected in the Position Control field in the System Modules section on the Human Resources Profile page:

• Y - Use Position Control

• T - Tracking Mode

Prepare import files

Import files must conform to the expected format for each import group. Log in to PowerSource and download one of the following .zip files:

• Import Templates in CSV format

• Import Templates with Instructions

Use the CSV-format Import Templates to prepare your dataset. Do not remove any columns. For multi-row distribution data, follow the provided example.

Use the Import Templates with Instructions file to understand data table columns, their usage, whether they are required, default values, and import-specific notes (see the Notes worksheet).

Save import area templates with a meaningful name specific to the import area to enable friendly column mapping on re-use. Saved templates can be selected to avoid re-mapping columns each time.

Import file validation requirements

Validations for data type, uniqueness, mandatory fields, prerequisites, and business logic are shown during the import process.

Best practices

• Enable import groups only when you have a validated import file ready. Leaving them enabled increases the Import Tool's visible complexity for end users.

• Use the Batch Position Control import group for initial bulk loading of positions. Batch positions can be validated and previewed before posting to the live tables. Batch position control is only for job classes that are not already operating under Position Control.

• Validate imported Position Control data using the Status Detail and Status Summary reports before posting.

• Validate imported Batch Position Control data using the Batch Status Detail and Batch Status Summary reports before posting.

• Use preview mode to verify the accuracy and correctness of the CSV file. After accuracy and correctness are checked, start the actual import process.

• To ensure the successful import of Position Control and Batch Position Control data, verify the accuracy and correctness of the saved data through the user interface.

• Use a meaningful title in the Import tool wizard while processing the import.
