Use this page to save your budget work file to an iteration record. You can save a file at any point in the budgeting process after running the options described in the next chapter, Extract Human Resources Data.
Following are some suggestions regarding when to save an iteration:
-
Store a work file immediately after extracting your Human Resources data. This allows you to start over at any time without running another extraction.
-
Before running a process that changes a large number of records, be sure to save your work file. Should the process cause any unintended results, you can reload the iteration and restore your data to its original state.
-
When you complete a budget, be sure to save it, preferably to a template that you have reserved for this purpose.
Menu Path: Personnel Budgeting > Entry & Processing > Iterations > Save Position Budget Iteration
Following are procedures for saving the current work file to an existing iteration, blank template, or new iteration.
Saving your work file to an existing iteration or blank template
-
Select Personnel Budgeting > Entry & Processing > Iterations > Save Position Budget Iteration to display the Save Position Budget Iteration page.
-
In the Position Iteration field, enter the number identifying a stored iteration or blank template.
Caution
Saving over a stored iteration replaces all of its data. If you have made significant changes to your work file, consider saving it under a different number, one identifying a blank template.
-
Click OK.
-
In the confirmation dialog, click Yes to save the work file.
-
Click OK when processing is complete.
Saving your work file as a new iteration
-
Select Personnel Budgeting > Entry & Processing > Iterations > Save Position Budget Iteration to display the Save Position Budget Iteration page.
-
In the Position Iteration field, enter a number that is not already being used to identify a template or iteration.
-
Click OK.
-
In the confirmation dialog, click Yes to display the Add New Iteration page.
The current budget year defaults to the Year field, and the Position Iteration field displays the number you entered. -
In the Description field, enter a title or brief description so that you can differentiate this iteration from other versions of your budget.
-
In the Notes section, enter specifications, changes, and other information related to the budget. You can use standard Windows editing keys to copy, paste, and delete text in this scrolling section.
-
Click OK.
-
In the Confirmation dialog, click Yes.
-
Click OK when the iteration is saved.
Important
After you save an iteration, you can continue to use the current work file, but remember to save it again should you wish to store any subsequent changes.
