BLS CES Report

The Current Employment Statistics (CES) program, run by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), provides monthly estimates of nonfarm wage and salary employment at the national, state, and metropolitan area levels.

Menu path

From the Human Resources menu, select Reports. From the Payroll menu, select BLS CES Report.

Submission period

The report must be submitted monthly for the pay period that includes the 12th of the month.

Selection rule

Employees with gross wages greater than zero are selected and reported.

Create file

Use the BLS CES Report page to specify the report criteria and create the report file.

  1. On the BLS CES Report page, select the Year and Month.

  2. Select the pay runs, including the 12th of the reporting month.

  3. Select whether to sort faculty members by Pay Code, Employee Type, or Job Class.

    • If you selected Pay Code in the Faculty member section, select the pay codes from the Pay Codes drop-down list.

    • If you selected Employee Type in the Faculty member section, select the employee types from the Employee Types drop-down list.

    • If you selected Job Class in the Faculty member section, select the job classes from the Job Classes drop-down list.

  4. Enter the CES Reporting Number.

  5. Select PDF or Excel.

  6. Select Submit.

  7. Save the file.

  8. Navigate to the folder containing the report file.

  9. Inspect the file. If required data is missing, update the source data.

  10. Repeat these steps until all the required data is included.

The default file names are:

  • Excel: BLS CES Report_<YYYY_MM>.xlsx

  • PDF: BLS CES Report_<YYYY_MM>.pdf

The PDF file contains a summary that shows the total number of employees, female employees, and faculty members, as well as individual employee details for easy verification.
